Weekly Club Notes 12th September 2021
12 Sep 2021On Sunday afternoon our junior A hurlers contested the Mid quarter final v Upperchurch in Drombane.
In a first half that was tight for most of the time but just before the break we lost our way and trailed 1-04 to 0-12 at the break. However, without ever giving up the ‘church piled on the scores to run out deserving winners on a 1-11 to 2-22 score line, ending our interest in this grade for 2021.
Senior Hurling: It was onto Holycross on Sunday evening for round 2 of the County championship v Mid rival Moycarkey. This was a crunch game for both sides with first round game losses on the table.
In a hard fought first half we trailed 0-12 to 1-11. We dominated the second half at different stages but had to fight out at the finish to run out 1-26 to 3-17 victors.
Our next and final group game v J K Brackens now seems to be winners in losers out situation.
Fixtures: This Wednesday at 6pm in Castleiney U/19B football v Upperchurch.
Saturday at 2pm in Littleton intermediate football v Golden.
Saturday evening at 6pm in Templetuohy senior football round 2 County championship v J K Brackens.
Bereavements: It has been a sad week for the townsland of Whitefield with the passing of great family friends Mary Jo Ryan and Michael Ormond within twelve hours of each other.
Mary Jo, nee McGrath, at the great age of 94 years was steeped in GAA tradition and followed the club teams all her life to various venues within and outside the County.
Her remains, draped in the club flag was received by a large guard of honour from Bensons Cross to the Church in Loughmore for burial.
The Late Michael Ormond: Having been hospitalised over the past few weeks Michael sadly passed away on Monday night 6th September. He was a footballer of note for club and County, playing on County minor, junior and senior teams in the 50’s and 60’s. He was rather unfortunate with injuries with a leg breakage on two occasions that brought his playing career to a rather abrupt finish.
On Friday morning last his remains were received by a large guard of honour from Bensons Cross to his final resting place in Loughmore cemetery.
On behalf of the juvenile and senior clubs we extend our deepest sympathy to both families and extended families on their sad loss R.I.P.
