Loughmore Castleiney GAA Club Weekly Notes 28th December 2020
29 Dec 2020The AGM for 2021 was held on Tuesday 22nd December, but due to the circumstances that prevail due to the covid pandemic, was held virtually thanks to the expertise of club members Diarmuid Meagher and Yvonne Doyle.
Outgoing chairman Eugene Stapleton opened the meeting on zoom and stated the order of the meeting in unprecedented circumstances. Secretary Maureen Connolly read the minutes of the 2020 AGM. Maureen then gave in great detail the club’s activities during 2020.
Newly elected County PRO clubman Johathan Cullen addressing the meeting thanked the club and stated how proud he was as the first from the club to sit at the top table of Tipperary County Board and stated he would be putting in a supreme effort during his term of office in the roll of PRO.
Eugene Stapleton in his chairman’s address thanked all the managements of the various teams and felt the entering of a hurling and football junior B teams added great enthusiasm from the players. He added that reaching both senior finals and just pipped in thrilling finals was exceptional. He thanked all his club officers. Once again the lotto and County board draws is a huge financial benefit to the club and thanked Jim Nolan for his great work being involved in both.
The newly launched photographic history book was a huge undertaking for himself and the committee but as a finished product was now a forever keepsake in the homes of the parishes and beyond. He thanked Donal O Dwyer, Mary Nolan and The Cottage for having the books on sale on their premises.
While our Bloody Sunday commemorations were almost totally curtailed, nonetheless we succeeded in laying wreaths on the graves of Bill Ryan in Templeree and Jim Ryan in Loughmore and he thanked Mons. Dooley for his addresses in both cemeteries.
He thanked Paddy and Jimmy Hennessy and Gerry Stapleton for their work in the club grounds. He thanked the Mid and County Board and congratulated Johathan Cullen in his new roll as County PRO. He also expressed his gratitude to juvenile chairman Joe Ryan and secretary Yvonne Doyle with the juvenile club and also referees Tom McGrath and Jonathan Cullen for keeping the clubs commitment to refereeing intact. To covid officer Christina Brennan and to Michael Ormond, Orthodontist for his kind sponsorship to the senior teams and all training subscribers. He thanked Liam Cleary and Diarmuid Brennan for the live streaming of club games during the year.
Over his five years plus term he was delighted that the club development, under chairman Brendan Meagher has made such progress. The five year plan has seen gym facilities in the clubhouse now phase one of the plan consisting of a new ball wall, astro turf and lighting almost completed he thanked David Moore and James Connolly for their expertise and a special mention to Michael Lowry TD for his huge help in preparation of application for grants etc. towards the development.
Finally he expressed his sympathy to all the families who suffered bereavements during a very extraordinary year for all.
He welcomed incoming chairman Brendan Meagher and wished him every success in his term of office.
Treasurer Eamon Connolly presented in great detail the club’s financial state over the year and stated that membership was very good and life membership has increased and he felt at 500.00 euro was good value at present and will certainly increase in the future. Eamon has played a huge part in the development process culminating in sponsorship etc.
Incoming chairman Brendan Meagher, addressing the meeting thanked Eugene for his great work over the past five years. He congratulated Jonathan Cullen and those involved in preparing the meeting on zoom and hoped by next year it would all be a thing of the past.
He wished our life vice President Fr. O’ Rourke a speedy recovery to health as he is presently unwell.
