LOUGHMORE/CASTLEINEY G.A.A. CLUB Weekly Notes 7th September 2020

Senior Hurling: The wheels keep rolling for our senior hurlers as for the first time since 2014 they have reached the County final stage by virtue of a rather comfortable 1-22 to 1-12 victory over championship favourites Eire Og, Nenagh on Saturday evening last in Semple Stadium. (see report).

Since gaining senior status in 1981 this will be the clubs seventh final appearance, when on September 20th in Semple Stadium we will face Kildangan.

Junior Hurling: On Sunday evening last in Boherlahan our junior A hurlers continued their winning formula with a hard fought 1-23 to 0-20 victory over Boherlahan to reach the Mid semi final. Despite and early round defeat by Holycross they have improved in recent outings to get back in to strong contention. Our best wishes to John Scully who received a heavy knock during this game.

Senior Football: On this Saturday September 12th we travel to Boherlahan for the County senior football semi final v Moyle Rovers at 4.30pm. Despite this being our ninth week in a row playing either hurling or football thankfully every player is avoiding injury and we have no doubt it will take a supreme effort from all if we are to reach a second senior County final in the space of a week.

Fixture: Minor football v Na Sarsealaigh Og on this Wednesday evening at 6.45pm in Thurles outside field.

Training Fund: With both our senior teams bidding for County final honours it is understandable that cost lies heavily on the clubs finances.

Our club lotto and County board draw are our main sources of income and thankfully our senior teams have received sponsorship from Ormond Orthodontist, Kilkenny and Thurles for this years championship. However, we just about survive and with phase one of our club development just started we are opening a training fund that can help in some way to defray the huge cost incurred by our success on the playing fields.
