LOUGHMORE/CASTLEINEY G.A.A. CLUB Weekly Notes 3rd November 2019

U/21 B Hurling: On Saturday afternoon at rain soaked Castleiney our U/21 B hurlers overcame Thurles Sarsfields B team in the first round group game on the score of 2-16 to 0-10.
This was a game played under dreadful conditions but to be fair to both sides they fought out a fine battle to the finish. We now face Upperchurch on this Sunday in Castleiney. (check time).

All Stars: On Friday night last at the GPA All Stars Noel McGrath picked up his third All Star Award. Capping an excellent season in which he picked up Man of the Match awards in both the All Ireland semi final and All Ireland final and greatly benefited from his move to midfield.
We say hard luck to John who was also nominated among a tip class forward line.

The Chaser: On Friday night last at a packed Templemore Arms Hotel the club fundraiser The Chaser proved a massive success. One has to compliment the organising committee for a huge effort over the last months. Also all our exhibitors and sponsors and contributors. To Pallas Marketing and the Templemore Arms a sincere thanks.

The Late Kevin Brennan 1933-2019: It was with deep sadness on Monday morning 28th October we learned of the passing of Kevin Brennan, Castleiney. Just passed his 86th birthday Kevin was a true Gael, playing most of his playing days with his native Castleiney and when both parishes reunited in the early sixties Kevin donned the green and red for many years.
Thankfully his contribution to the parish was not all down to the field of play for as an ardent Scór follower and participant he represented the club in Mid and County finals, and his rendering of the Percy French poem The Four Farrelly’s was a real winner and loudly applauded on many occasions down the years. His talents were handed down to his family also as his son Richard reached an All Ireland final in recitation.
Following his repose in Grey’s Funeral home which was attended by huge numbers his remains, draped in the club flag was met with a large guard of honour from the club to Castleiney Church with burial the next day in Templeree Cemetery.
To his wife Eveyln, his daughters and sons, brother and sisters on behalf of the club our deepest sympathy.
Kevin was also an uncle to our senior club chairman Eugene Stapleton to whom we also extend our sympathy.
