13 May 2019County Senior Hurling League: On Saturday last in Clonoulty our senior hurlers faced County champions Clonoulty in Division 1 County league. Played in ideal conditions we trailed 0-05 to 0-10 at the break. With a fine start to the second half we edged clear but a strong finish from the home side gave them victory 0-15 to 1-18.
Gerard Grace Tournament: On this Saturday morning we travel to Dolla for the Silvermines Gerard Grace tournament. We are drawn in Group1 with Burgess, Silvermines and Clonlara. Our first game is on the main pitch v Burgess with a 11am starting time. This is an eleven a side game playing twelve minutes per half. Players must be on time as games are played to schedule.
Late Bernard (Berni) Leahy: On Friday last we learned of the sad passing of Berni Leahy, Kilcurkee, Castleiney.
Berni was a former club secretary in the late sixties and was later club chairman from 1970 to 1972 and carried out his duties in his own quiet and pleasant manner and was a great supporter of the club at all times.
His remains, draped in the club flag was met with a club guard of honour as it arrived in Castleiney Church for Requiem Mass followed by removal and burial in Loughmore Cemetary. On behalf of the club we offer our sympathy to his brothers and sisters relatives and friends. Go nDeana Dia trocaire air. RIP
Jimmy Cunningham (Roscrea) : It was with deep regret we also learned at the weekend of the passing of Jimmy, a great servant of the club for many years as a masseur and first aid man. A most helpful figure when called upon to help out Cathy on many occasions and would never by far out with injury assessment of players.
On behalf of the senior and juvenile clubs we offer our deepest sympathy to his wife Tereasa and his sons. RIP
Also on behalf of the club we offer our sympathy to Emer and Alvy Stapleton and family on the passing of Emer’s mother in Patrickswell over the weekend. May she Rest in Peace.
County Teams: We say well done to our three players with the senior hurlers on Sunday last in Cork and it was hard luck to our players with the senior and minor footballers and minor hurlers over the weekend.
