Club Notes 9th July 2023

Mid Senior Hurling Championship

Our senior hurlers got back to winning ways with a commanding performance over neighbours Drom & Inch in the Mid 1/4 final on a 2-30 to 1-23 scoreline. Drom probably shaded the opening stages but we had started to get on top when Seamie Callanan goaled on the stroke of half time to put them a point up. A leveller just after the break saw us go up a gear and two second half John McGrath goals saw us push on for an impressive win which saw some great performances all over the field.

We move on now to a semi final against Upperchurch Drombane next weekend with Thurles Sarsfileds and Holycross Ballycahill contesting the second semi final.

John McGrath scores the first of his two goals against Drom

Junior Hurlers

Hard luck to our Junior hurlers who lost to Moycarkey-Borris Castleiney on Sunday on a scoreline of 2-22 to 2-11.

Under 19 Hurling and Football

The u19 hurlers played Templetuohy on Wednesday last and after a shaky start they went in at halftime time 0-8 to 1-10 behind. The second half was a big improvement and a much better display saw us run out winners 2-19 to 1-16.

We play the same opponents in the football championship next Wednesday evening in Cuguilla at 7:30pm.

Intercounty Action

There was much joy for our girls involved with the Tipperary Senior Camogie team on Saturday. Mairead Eviston and Aoife McGrath were part of a solid defence that restricted to Antrim to just a single point from play for the entire game while Eimear McGrath knocked over 5 frees as Tipp ran out 3-23 to 0-6 winners in Croke Park.

Next up will be the challenge of Waterford on the 22nd of July at 3:30pm in Nowlan Park. They stand in the way of a first All-Ireland Final appearance for Tipp in 17 years.

Mairead Eviston clears her lines in Croke Park

Juvenile Notes

Hard luck to our U15 footballers who narrowly missed out on a place in the County Final after losing by just two points to Carrick Davins in a hard fought contest (1-8 to 1-6).
Best wishes to Carrick Davins in the County Final.

Our Under 15 hurlers will host Emly in Cuguilla at 7pm this coming Thursday evening.

On Tuesday night our under 13 hurlers drew with Thurles Gaels on a scoreline of 2-10 to 3-7 in the Mid Hurling Championship. Next up for them is a trip to Drombane on Tuesday evening (the 11th) to face Upperchurch Drombane at 6:45pm.

Last Wednesday night we played the last u11 hurling go games in our group. It was a very strong performance by our boys and girls through out the pitch and were rewarded with a good victory.

Our next football game is on Saturday 15th away to Clonakenny.

We also have a hurling blitz coming up on July 20th/21st, time and venue to be confirmed.

Cúl Camps 2023

Our Cúl Camp started last Monday the 3rd and finished today Friday 7th. Approx 35-39 children participated ranging in age from under 7s up to under 13s. Special thanks to our guest visitor Bryan O’Mara (Tipp Hurler) who signed gear, stood in for photos and answered questions. Thanks also to the Cul Camp coaches Stephen, Dean, Elaine, Diarmuid and Finn. Thanks also to parents who stayed each day to help supervise. The children had great fun and were extremely well behaved in spite of some rainfall here and there.

Brian Gleeson

Brian Gleeson continues to shine with the Irish rugby team and we send our best wishes to him and the team as they progress towards the finals.

Cathal Ryan

Congrats to Cathal Ryan in the U18 Boys High Jump where he finished 3rd.
