Club Notes 9th April 2023
10 Apr 2023County Leagues
On Good Friday our Junior Cs suffered defeat in their opening game of the County League. Clerihan overcame our lads on a score of 2-20 to 4-3. A stronger second half showing wasn’t enough to claw back an insurmountable half time deficit. Next up is the challenge of Rosegreen next Sunday at 3pm in Castleiney.
Our Senior Hurlers will be in action on Saturday at 6pm away to Kilenaule.
On Saturday evening our ladies footballers were defeated by Moyne Templetouhy in the 1st round of the league on a scoreline of 4-07 to 1-03. We are still down a number of players but there were some positive displays during the game despite the final result. Well done to all the new players who made their debut for the club.
We will compete in Division 2 of this year’s county league. Our group contains Moyne Templetouhy, Aravale Rovers, Lattin Cullen Emily and Thurles Sarsfields. Next round to be played on a May 7th.
Intercounty Action
There were mixed fortunes for our players in Blue and Gold this week.
Ciaran McCormack and the Tipp Under 20 hurlers suffered defeat to Cork by the Lee during the week on a score of 1-28 to 1-19. Ciaran started the game on the bench but came on as a blood sub during the first half before coming into the 15 at half time. Tipp still have Limerick and Waterford to play in the round robin but after a draw (Clare) and defeat against Cork they will now likely have to win both games.
On Sunday the Tipp footballers overcame a scare to see off Waterford in the Munster Senior Football Championship. The victory sees Tipp into a semi final against reigning All-Ireland Champions Kerry. Willie Eviston came on as a late second half substitute while Liam McGrath and Tommy Maher were unused substitutes.
Eoin O’Connell will line out at Corner Back for the Tipp under 20 footballers on Easter Monday night. They take on Clare in Semple Stadium at 7pm.
Juvenile Club
Our U15’s had a disappointing trip to Cahir for this year’s hurling Féile on Saturday. They lost their first group match to Grangemockler which effectively put them on the back foot going in to their second match. They led this by a single point going in to the last few minutes but conceded a late goal to St. Mary’s which sealed their fate. They put in a good performance against Ballinahinch/Templederry, who topped the group, in their final group match but lost by 4 points.Attention now turns to the football championship which starts for them this Thursday with an away match to Ballinahinch/Templederry.
Our U13 football team continues to perform very well and they had a great win over Gortnahoe last Monday evening on a score line of 5-7 to 3-6.
