Club Notes 7th May 2023

Cahill Cup

On Wednesday evening we exited this year’s CM Signs Cahill Cup at the quarter final stage to neighbours JK Brackens. Our neighbours ran out 2-22 to 1-17 winners on the night with our lads putting up a good show despite still missing many key players through injury and inter-county duty. While results haven’t been favourable to us so far this spring many younger players have been getting valuable game time which will surely pay dividends for both Seniors and Juniors as the year progresses.

Our Senior Hurlers are back in action next Sunday morning with a trip to Portroe in the County Hurling League.

Intercounty Action

It was a busy day by the Lee for many of our club members on Saturday. Aoife and Eimear McGrath, Mairead Eviston, and Niamh Treacy were involved with Tipp Camogie in the curtain raiser which saw Tipp reach the Munster Final with a fine performance against Waterford on a scoreline of 4-11 to 1-9. Clare lie in wait next Saturday in Thurles in the decider.

Noel and John McGrath were both in action for the Tipp senior hurlers in a game that lived up to the storied history of Tipp and Cork hurling. A game that could have gone either way was ultimately level at the final whistle. 2-25 to 4-19. Brian McGrath missed out due to injury while Declan Laffan is a selector and Martin O’Connell is part of the Tipp backroom team. Tipp have 3 points from their first 2 games and are in a good position with home games against Limerick and Waterford still to come. They have a break next weekend before welcoming the reigning All-Ireland champions the following weekend.

On Monday evening the 8th the County u20 hurlers play Clare in Semple Stadium at 7.30 and we wish Ciaran McCormack all the best.

Then on Thursday it’s off to Mallow as the County Minor football team take on Limerick in the phase 1 final as they bid to retain the Daryl Darcy cup. Best of luck to Shane, Mikey and Joey.

Liam McGrath, Willie Eviston, and Tommy Maher travel to Naval with the Tipp senior footballers next Saturday at 6:30pm as Tipp take on Meath in the first round of the Tailteann Cup.

Juvenile Club

It was another really busy week on the club juvenile scene starting with the Minor hurlers who took on Ballinahinch/Templederry on Monday evening. Despite losing this was a much better performance than week one, scoring 2-10 in defeat. Next Monday evening they play Moycarkey Borris in Littleton at 7pm.

Following their fantastic Mid final win, the u13 football team will face Toomevara on Tuesday evening in Clonakenny at 7pm. This is the County semi final and a big crowd will be expected to cheer on the lads.

The u15 footballers played Ballinahinch /Templederry on Thursday evening and came away with a 4-05 to 2-02 win in difficult conditions. Their final group game is provisionally booked in for May 18th away to Moyle Rovers.

On Friday evening last 20 of our u9’s travelled to Cistercian college Roscrea to take part in a massive blitz with 38 teams and over 400 kids present. They had a super time at a really well organised event.

On Saturday a bus departed Loughmore including 35 kids and headed for Watergrasshill GAA to play u11 and u13 matches. It was an entertaining afternoon of hurling and everyone put in a great effort. From there we made our way to Blackrock GAA club where hot food was provided to all the players. Many thanks to Watergrasshill and Blackrock GAA clubs for their hospitality. The highlight of the day was when the kids got to see their heroes from Tipperary take on Cork in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. A great day for all involved and memories made for the children. They conducted themselves in an exemplary fashion all day and did Loughmore proud. Big thanks to everyone who organised the day.
