Club Notes 2nd July 2023

Mid Senior Hurling Championship

The Mid Senior hurling championship kicks off on Sunday when we travel to Templetouhy at 1:30pm to take on Drom & Inch in a repeat of last year’s Mid 1/4 final. Best of luck to team and management in what will hopefully be the start of a long season in both codes.

Best of luck to Joey Hennessy who will undergo surgery on a knee issue picked up in the County League shortly.

Ladies Football Notes

The junior panel continues to train hard in preparation for the championship starting at the end of July. They will play Moyne Templetouhy, Aravale Rovers, Sliabh Na mBan, Silbermines and St.Patrick’s Drangan in the Junior A Championship. Dates to be confirmed.

The mothers and others panel played Borris in Ossory of Laois in a challenge match last Thursday in Cugilla. A great evening of football was played. It was a very evenly match encounter with fantastic football played from both teams but through some great teamwork we came away with a well deserved victory.

Junior Hurlers

Our Junior Hurlers suffered a 6 point defeat ton Thurles Sarsfields on Tuesday evening on a scoreline of 2-19 to 2-13. Next up is the visit of Moycarkey-Borris to Castleiney next Sunday at 7pm.

Under 19 Hurling and Football

Our u19 football team got their campaign off to a winning start last Thursday evening with a 3 point win over Drom/Inch. The scoreboard probably flattered Drom a little as we were on top for most of this game but left our shooting boots in the dressing room. Plenty of room for improvement though and a win should do wonders for the boys confidence.

These lads are hurling this week when we entertain Templetuohy at 7.30 on Wednesday evening. All support greatly appreciated.

Intercounty Action

The Tipp Senior Camogie team topped their group on Saturday with a draw against Kilkenny in a pulsating contest in Nowlan Park. Tipp will now face Antrim in Croke Park on Saturday at 3:30pm in the All-Ireland Quarter Final before the Senior Hurling meeting of Galway and Limerick afterwards.

Niamh Treacy, Aoife and Eimear McGrath started the game on Saturday while Mairead Eviston came on during the first half and played a vital role in quietening the Kilkenny attack. Eimear meanwhile contributed to keeping the scoreboard ticking over at the opposite end.

Juvenile Notes

On Tuesday evening at 7pm our u13 hurlers take on Thurles Gaels in Castleiney and on Sunday next the u15 football team are scheduled to play Carrick Davins with the time and venue to be confirmed.

Cúl Camps 2023

Our Cúl Camps are running all this week. We hope all the kids enjoy their week of hurling and football and best of luck and thanks to the organisers.

Wedding Bells

Congrats to Henry Maher and Laura McCarthy who were married in Killarney on Friday. The club would like to wish them many years of happiness.
