Club Notes 27th August 2023
27 Aug 2023County Hurling and Football Championships
Sunday saw our Senior Hurlers record a third successive win in the Group Stages of this year’s County Championship. This result sees us top our group and progress directly to a County 1/4 final and avoid the preliminaries. We will have to wait to see who our opponents are the next day. The top seeds are ourselves, Toomevara, Drom & Inch, and Kiladangan. Mullinahone, Holycross, Roscrea, and Thurles Sarsfileds finished second so two of them will play Nenagh and Clonoulty Rossmore who won their divisions but failed to get out of their groups. Repeat pairings will be avoided where possible.
Played in what almost seems like unseasonably sunny weather in the Stadium we eventually ran out four point winners on a scoreline of 2-15 to 0-17.
The opening stages were a tight affair as things often are between ourselves and the Church in either code we started to gain a foothold in the game before Ciaran McCormack was brought down in the large parallelogram and John McGrath converted the resulting penalty. We kicked on from there and led 1-11 to 0-6 at the break.
Liam McGrath looked to have put the tie to bed shortly after the restart with a smashing pull along the ground for our second goal. Upperchurch kept the scoreboard ticking and reduced our lead over the course of the second half but we were able to see out the game nicely with a 4 point win.

We turn our focus again to the big ball next weekend in a massive game against Ballina. The game will be in Moneygal at 2pm on Saturday the 2nd of September. After two games Ballina sit top of a group with all to play for. Almost anything is still possible so we will need some sort of a result to progress to the knockout stages. The North Tipp side will be tough opponents having averaged 22 points a game from their first two games.

Our Intermediate footballers are also in action next weekend. They will take on Jk Brackens in Holycross on Sunday at 3:30pm.
Ladies Football
We recorded another championship win last Thursday evening in the rescheduled match against St. Patrick’s. In a tight, physical contest the girls came out on top on scoreline of 1.11 to 1.09.
Our next championship match V Silvermines is fixed for this Wednesday 30th at 7pm in Templederry. All support is greatly appreciated.
Under 19 Hurling
Our under 19s have a big game Wednesday evening when we host Thurles Sarsfields in the Mid Under 19B semi-final in Castleiney. The game throws in on 6:30pm with Gortnahoe facing off against Upperchurch Drombane in the other semi final. Please come out to support the lads on Wednesday evening.
Juvenile Notes
It was a quiet week this week on the juvenile front but our under 15s are back in action this week. They will take on Grangemockler at 7pm in Castleiney on Thursday evening.
