Intercounty Action

The Tipp senior hurlers exited this year’s National Hurling League with a six point reverse to All-Ireland Champions Limerick on a score of 1-28 to 0-25. A strong 15 minutes from the Shannon siders saw a healthy half time lead dismantled and sent them into a League Final at our expense. Despite the result it has been a great league for Tipp with 5 wins from 5 in the group stage and a marked improvement on last year. Noel started the game and contributed a point while John came on in the second half.

For his performance the previous Sunday, John McGrath was named on the GAA.ie team of the week and also named as GAA.ie player of the week. Congrats John.

Earlier on Saturday the Tipperary under 20s travelled to Clare for the opening round of the Munster Championship. A fiercely contested battle saw honours even at 20 points a piece. Ciaran McCormack started the game and scored a point during the first half.

The Tipp senior footballers ended their stay in Division 3 with a defeat away to Westmeath. 1-13 to 0-10 the game finished in Cusack Park. Willie Eviston started the game while Tommy Maher came on just before half time. Liam McGrath was an unused substitute.

The Tipperary senior Camogie team were in hard luck this weekend in their efforts to reach a league final. The girls needed to beat Kilkenny to guarantee a final berth. Failing that a Cork win over Galway would have seen them through. Unfortunately neither came to pass. Tipp lost to neighbours Kilkenny in Piltown on a score of 14 points to 13 while Galway managed a narrow victory over Cork. Hard look to Mairead, Aoife, Eimear, and Niamh who all played on Saturday.

25th March 2023 – Very National Camogie League Division 1A Round 5 Tipperary vs Kilkenny

There was good news for the Camogie players of the parish this week however. Both Mairead Eviston and Eimear McGrath had their performances with Drom & Inch rewarded in Croke Park on Saturday evening as they were both named on the AIB Club Camogie Team of the Year for the 2022/23 season. Mairead was further honoured as she was named Munster Camogie player of the year. Congrats to both Mairead and Eimear on your awards.

Post Primary Action

Best of luck to the boys who are on the Our Lady’s under 16.5 football team who play St Pats from Castleisland in the Munster final on Wednesday at 12.30 in UL. It’s a great achievement to reach a Munster final in any competition and Kerry opposition is always a massive threat. Hopefully we will have good news to report next week.

Juvenile Club

The U15 footballers utilised our excellent facilities on Thursday night when playing Thurles Gaels under lights on the astro pitch.
While the score line didn’t reflect the high level of competitiveness that the opposition brought to the game, our lads did what they had to and did it very well.
The influence of the Senior players that are coaching them was obvious to all. Playing fast attacking football combined with tigerish defending, it was ideal preparation for them ahead of the first round of the Championship which is expected to bring stiffer challenges to this young team.

The juvenile season is up and running and with the longer evenings there will be plenty of activity in the field for the next few months. Keep an eye on the fixtures on the Mid Tipp page and try to get down and support the various teams. Our young players love to see support on the line and the involvement of parents is crucial to developing our teams. Don’t leave it all to the coaches. We have had record numbers complete coaching , Garda vetting and safeguarding courses so please give the kids an hour or two when you can.

Reminder to all our U19 and U21 players to make sure to continue to attend training and push for a starting place with the Juniors and Seniors while so many of our inter county players are unavailable.
