Club Notes 26th February 2023

Club Planning and Development Workshop

On Friday the 10th of March Loughmore Castleiney GAA will host a Club Planning and Development Workshop in Loughmore Parish Hall to create a five year club plan (2023-2028). You will have the opportunity to give your proposals and ideas on the future priorities to develop the club and the facilities for the enjoyment of all the community. We extend this invite to all members of the community and everyone’s opinion is valued. We look forward to seeing you on the night. Tea and light refreshments will be served.

County Leagues

Our hurlers will compete in Division 2 and Division 6 of this year’s county hurling leagues. In Division 2 our group contains Carrick Swan, Killenaule, Portroe, Gortnahoe Glengoole, and Templederry Kenyons. The first tie is to be played the weekend of the 18th of March and sees us at home to Carrick Swans.

In Division 6 or Junior C hurlers will be in action against Rosegreen, Clerihan, and Knock. This too is a home game to be played the weekend of the 18th of March.

Full fixture details to be announced.

Alternate Jersey

This week the club unveiled our new look change jersey. This jersey will be worn whenever our regular red and green jerseys clash with the opposition. GAA rules now state that both teams must change in this scenario. The jersey is available to order now from the club’s shop on O’Neill’s: https://oneills.com/loughmore-castleiney-gaa-club-club-gaa-3s-jersey-v1-navy-green.html

Under 15 Training

Well done to our U15’s who have just completed a 6 week S&C programme with Martin O’Connell. Massive improvements were made after the 6 weeks and the lads are looking forward to their test results. Hurling and football training starting is starting soon and we’ll be incorporating further S&C into the training sessions to keep up the momentum. A Massive thank you to Martin O’Connell who delivered a very professional programme and well done to all the lads, they put in a huge effort.

Development Squads

Well done to Daniel McDonnell and Cathal Breen who played for the Mid Tipp U14A team in the Interdivisional Football Tournament on Saturday against the South and the West divisional squads. They’ll meet the North team in the Shield Final.

Intercounty Action

On Saturday the Tipperary hurlers made a winning return

to Croke Park with a 2-23 to 0-24 win against Dublin. Brian McGrath started the game a registered a point from play but was forced off just before half time. He was replaced by Noel McGrath who helped Tipp see out a victory in the second half. This is three wins from three now for Tipp in the league who remain on course to enter the knockout stages of the competition.

The Tipp senior footballers poor run of form continued on Sunday as they were held to a draw with Longford in Longford. Tipp trailed by 4 at half time but had a much better second half. A few decisions went against the Premier men late on and the honours were shared at 1-11 to 0-14. Willie Eviston started the game with Liam McGrath coming on from the bench.

The Tipperary Camogie team made it two wins from two with a 2-13 to 1-6 win over Dunlin in Parnell Park. Mairead Eviston and Eimear McGrath both started for Tipp in their win with Niamh Treacy coming on off the bench in the second half. Cork will be the next test for this team when they meet in the Ragg next Saturday. Both teams have two wins from two and the winner will surely be in pole position to reach a League Final.
