Club Notes 24th September 2023

County Hurling and Football Championships

Our Senior Footballers exited this year’s County Senior Football Championship on Saturday at the hands of Moyle Rovers in Golden. A tight game which we ultimately lost on the narrowest of margins on a scoreline of 0-12 to 1-10. A late Liam Roland goal for Moyle Rovers proved decisive as both teams traded points during a lengthy period of added time. A draw looked likely in a game that could have gone either way but Moyle Rovers got the wining point with the last kick of the game.

Hard luck to players and management and thanks for their efforts all year.

Our focus now switches back once again to the small ball. We take on Thurles Sarsfields this coming Saturday evening in Semple Stadium in the County Senior Hurling Semi-Final. Throw in is 7:15 and the game will be shown live on RTÉ. Our opponents from the 2021 County Final have had a strong year having already won the Mid Championship and they were very impressive in their victory over Drom & Inch in the 1/4 Finals. Best of luck to players and management ahead of the weekend.

All Star Nomination

Congrats to Aoife McGrath who last Monday was nominated for a Camogie All-Star after a super year with Tipperary. The winners will be announced on 4th of November in Croke Park. Best of luck Aoife!

Ladies Football

Congrats to our ladies football team who have reached the county final after defeating Silvermines  on a score line of 2.18 to 2.02. The match was played last Tuesday under lights in Dr.Morris Park. This is a huge achievement reaching another county final. We will face Moyne Templetouhy in the county final on Sunday October 8th at 12 noon. Venue TBC. It promises to be a cracking final against our local rivals.  It would be great to see as much flags and bunting as possible up around the parish in support of the girls.

The M+O panel continue to train for the upcoming county blitz.

Under 19 Hurling

On Wednesday evening our u19s went to Dr Morris Park for the Mid Final against Drom. After going to extra time the previous week in the hurling, the boys were determined not to let the football slip away and we were treated to a terrific display from both sides with some really excellent scores and both goalies brought off some fine saves. The standard of football was a joy to watch as both teams attacked at pace with some excellent foot passing and fierce defending. At the end of 60 minutes the sides were level and it was extra time once again. We had tired bodies all over the field but after a high intensity 20 minutes, one last surge down the field saw Philip O Connell put a pin point pass in front of Richie Morris who rattled the net to huge cheers from the massive Loughmore support. 2-15 to 3-9 was the final score and Captain Paul McCahey was presented with the trophy surrounded by a big fan club of youngsters. These boys have had a tough couple of weeks and well deserved this victory. Credit also to the management team who now have a County semi final to look forward to against Kilsheelan.
