Club Notes 21st May 2023

Senior Hurling

Our Senior Hurlers ended their County League Campaign with defeat to Portroe on Tuesday evening. A 1-23 to 0-23 point loss saw the north side progress to the knockout stages at our expense.

Focus now turns to the Mid and County Championships will which start later in the year depending on how far Tipp go in the senior hurling and Tailteann Cup.

Under 19 Training

The under 19s had their second training session on Saturday evening and they showed great enthusiasm as they mixed it with the seniors. The championship in both codes will start in just over 4 weeks so full attendance at training is essential.

Intercounty Action

Sunday saw mixed fortunes for our club members playing with the senior inter county teams.

Willie Eviston started for the Tipp footballers but they succumbed to a 2-18 to 0-6 defeat to down in Semple Stadium. Tipp can still progress out of the group stages but will need to beat Waterford in the next round in a neutral venue.

Tipp went toe to toe with reigning All-Ireland Champions Limerick in their third game of this year’s Munster Championship with honours even at 25 points a piece. Noel, John, and Brian all had a say in the action. Noel scored two points in a man of the match display while John scored the equaliser with a last minute free.

Our two representatives on the county minor football team saw their year finish on Thursday night with Cork taking the spoils with a fine display of attacking football. Joey Quinn and Mikey Ryan have had a very busy season and no doubt the exposure to this level of training and matches will benefit both lads and ultimately the club.

Similarly Ciaran McCormack saw his inter county campaign come to an end with the U20 hurlers but the plus side is his availability to the club for the season ahead. Incidentally, congratulations and best wishes to Ciaran as he starts his career with An Garda Siochana.

Juvenile Club

This was a very quiet week on the juvenile front with little action on the club scene.

Our u15 football team are away to Moyle Rovers on Thursday evening with throw in at 7pm.

Our U13 Mid Champions who only lost out to the eventual County Champions Toomevara in the County semi final.

Sympathies

The club extends sincere condolences to Seanie Gleeson and family on the passing of his brother Billy who passed away on Thursday last. His funeral mass will take place on Monday morning 22nd at 11.30 in Croagh Co Limerick.

Our sympathies also to the family of John Purcell who passed away earlier in the week and was laid to rest on Friday. May they rest in peace.
