Club Notes 1st October 2023

County Hurling Championship.

On Saturday evening we travelled to Semple Stadium to face Thurles Sarsfields in the County Senior Hurling Final. It was there under the lights in Tom Semple’s Field that our involvement in the championship came to an end. Leading by the minimum at half time thanks to a goal from Ciaran McCormack we looked to be in a decent position but a very determined Thurles team eventually ran out 7 point winners.

A thank you to players and management for their commitment this year. With players returning from injury and some younger players gaining valuable experience this year hopefully we can be competitive once again when 2024 comes around.

All Star Nomination

Congrats to Noel McGrath who was nominated for an All-Star last week. This is Noel’s 10th All-Star nomination since joining the panel in 2009. A former Young Hurler of the Year, Noel has won three All-Stars with Tipp. 2009, 2010, and 2019.

Ladies Football

The panel is preparing very hard for the upcoming county final which takes place next Saturday October 7th at 2pm. Venue TBC. Keep an eye on social media as we will post as soon as we hear. It promises to be a huge occasion against our local rivals Moyne Templetouhy. We encourage everyone in the parish to get behind the girls on Saturday and would appreciate all the support on the day. This is a great achievement getting to another county final since the club was reformed last year, so we wish the panel and management the very best of luck.

A huge thank you to the cottage in Loughmore who have kindly sponsored and provided food for the girls after training the last 2 weeks. We really appreciate this very kind gesture.

The M+O panel played Thurles in a challenge match last Friday evening in Thurles.

Juvenile Club

Our under 9s travelled to Na Fianna in Co. Offaly this morning to play in their Autumn Hurling Tournament. 20 of our squad were present and played with great enthusiasm and represented the club brilliantly. We played games against Na Fianna, Round Towers and Kilcormack Killough. Well done to all kids and thanks to everyone in Na Fianna for organising a fantastic day out for everyone.

Our u11 hurlers played in the Mick Prior tournament in Borrisoleigh Saturday morning. Our opposition teams were Toomevara, Silvermines and Borrisoleigh. Due to the horrendous weather conditions it was decided to shorten tournament to league basis which resulted in us winning the shield and the hosts Borrisoleigh winning the cup. We had 14 players on the day and evert child deserves great credit for their performances, showing great heart and determination, well done to all and thanks to Borrisoleigh Gaa for having us.

Our U15 hurlers have finished their group campaign and now look forward to a Shield semifinal this Sunday, venue to be confirmed.

Brian Gleeson

Congrats to club member Brian Gleeson who made his first start for Munster on Saturday evening against the Barbarians. Brian marked his debut with two tries.
