CLUB NOTES 19/05/24

Cahill Cup

Well done to our Senior hurlers who won a very competitive Cahill Cup semi final last Wednesday evening against Holycross. After being 5 points behind early in the first half they settled down and produced a fine display of teamwork and accuracy to run out 1-18 to 0-17 winners. The final is scheduled for this Wednesday evening in Holycross at 7pm with Drom-Inch the opposition.

On Thursday evening our Junior hurlers played Solohead in their patch and came out on the wrong side of a 4-19 to 1-17 score line.

Semple Stadium proved to be a tough environment for our Tipp team on Sunday as Cork ran riot in the second half to finish our chances of going any further in this year’s championship. Noel McGrath was one of our best on the day and John came in off the bench to register a couple of scores.

Juvenile news

It was a busy week for the younger members with the Minor football team first into action on Monday evening when they travelled south to Newcastle for the first round of the championship. A 4 point victory was the result but could easily have been much more but for some errant shooting in front of goal.

On Saturday we took part in the Micheal Hogan football tournament hosted by Templetuohy and played some lovely football. These u11 tournaments are a great launch pad for the type of competition that these young players will encounter as they get older and form a very important link in getting these boys and girls into a habit of playing competitive matches.

On Sunday  in Cuiguilla,  our U15s hosted Carrigtwohill of Cork in a challenge. Despite fielding a very young team, our players showed great resolve and attitude and put in a fine display.  Carrigtwohill made a presentation of their club crest to mark the occasion. A special thanks to all those who provided catering and hospitality for our guests.
