Senior Hurling and Football
The pairings for the first round of the hurling and football club championships were made during the week.
In the first round of the County Senior Hurling Championship we will take on Templederry Kenyons. The Round 2 pairing will be made up of the winners of this game facing the winners of Upperchurch and Holycross.
In the Senior Football Championship we will take on Moycarkey Borris while in the Intermediate football we face Galtee Rovers.
Our Junior Hurlers will be out in action first on the 27th of June against Thurles Sarsfields in the Outside Field at 7:30pm.
The junior panel continues to train hard in preparation for the championship starting at the end of July.
The mothers and others panel took part in the Munster blitz last Saturday in Mallow. A very enjoyable day with the team winning 2 games and drawing 2 games. Well done to all involved.
A huge congrats to two of our ladies footballers-Emer Scanlon on the birth of her baby girl and Ailish O Connell on the birth of her baby boy. We look forward to seeing both Emer and Ailish back on the playing fields soon.
Eddie Connolly Memorial Tournament
The annual Eddie Connolly Memorial Tournament was held on Wednesday. Representatives from Loughmore NS, Castleiney NS, Leugh NS, Rahealty NS, Clonmore NS, Moyne NS Lismackin NS, and Templetuohy NS took part on the day which was a great success.
Congrats to Loughmore NS and Castleiney NS who won their respective groups.
Well done and thank you to all who participated and helped out in the running of the tournament.
The Tipp Senior Hurlers broke records all around them on Saturday with a 7-38 to 3-18 win over Offaly in Tullamore. It was the highest scoring championship game in history and Tipp’s tally of 7-38 (59 points) broke the record for the largest score posted by a single team since 1954 when Wexford scored 12-17 (Nicky Rackard racking up 7-7 in the process). Noel scored 0-2 of our total while John came on and in a short period of time scored 1-1 himself and set up a further two goals.
Tipp march on to face Galway in the 1/4 final next Saturday evening. Best of luck to Noel, John, Brian, and Declan.
Tipp Camogie travel to Enniscorthy on Saturday to take on Wexford looking to build on an impressive outing the last day against Dublin. Wecford had an impressive comeback in their first game clawing back a large deficit to draw with All-Ireland Champions Kilkenny. Best of luck to Aoife, Eimear, Mairead, and Niamh.
Juvenile action is due to pick up a notch next week as the exams finish and the U19s will be in action probably in the first week of July.
The minor hurlers had a good workout against Portarlington on Sunday morning last and it’s hoped to get a challenge for the u19s this coming weekend.
Congratulations to Brian Gleeson on his selection on the Ireland u20 for the Rugby World Cup. After a great season with the squad during the Six Nations his consistency has been rewarded with a Munster contract to top off a fantastic year. All in Loughmore Castleiney GAA are very proud of your achievements Brian and look forward to seeing you have more success in South Africa.
