Club Notes 16th April 2023
16 Apr 2023County Leagues
On Saturday evening our Senior hurlers were defeated by Killenaule in Division 2 of the county hurling league on a scoreline of 2-22 to 0-14. Our competitiveness in the league is being hampered by a few injuries and with many players away on inter county duty but it is providing ample opportunity for some of our younger players to make a case for inclusion when the championship starts up.
Our Junior Cs succumbed to a 6 point defeat to Rosegreen 2-9 to 2-15 on Sunday evening. It’s still early days for Pat Cullen’s charges though. Many of the teams we play in the league are Junior B rather Junior C standard and no doubt Pat will have the lads primed for another go at a mid title later this year.
Championship Draws
The draws have been made for the County Championships as well as the Mid Senior Hurling Championship

Sympathy Notices
The club offers its sincere condolences to Paddy Stapleton formerly of Laha and the extended Stapleton family on the sad passing of Paddy’s son Alan which occurred on March 28th at his home in Perth Australia. A funeral mass for Alan will take place in Leixlip parish church on Tuesday 25 at 11am.
The death has also occurred of former club player Martin Carroll and we offer our condolences to his brother Seamus and the extended family. His funeral takes place this Sunday evening and burial on Monday in Templeree following 11.30 mass in Castleiney.
May they rest in peace.
Intercounty Action
On Monday 10th Eoin O Connell started at corner back for the Tipp u20 footballers against Clare and they were unlucky to be beaten on a score line of 1-11 to 11. As this championship is run on a knockout basis that ends the year for these lads which is a pity after all the effort put in by the panel which also included Paul McCahey and Eddie Meagher.
The under 20 hurlers have their next outing on Friday the 21st when they entertain Limerick in the Stadium at 7pm. Best of luck to Ciaran McCormack as they go in search of a first win in this year’s competition.
The Tipp minor football team began their defence of the Daryl Darcy cup in Rathkeale on Thursday 13th and became the first Tipperary team to register a victory in any championship this year with a comprehensive win over Limerick. Mikey Ryan is recovering from an injury picked up during the school’s Munster football final and didn’t feature on Thursday but Joey Quinn came off the bench in the second half and his determination and skill was in evidence as he turned over a Limerick defender and the ball broke to full forward Ronan O Brien to score the games only goal. The full time score was 1-14 to 0-7. They play Waterford this Thursday the 20th in the Stadium at 7pm.
Medal Presentation

There will be a medal presentation for last year’s under 15 and under 17s this Friday April 21st at 7pm in Loughmore community hall with special guest Brian Gleeson. We will also be acknowledging Cathal Ryan on his achievements in the high jump and Brian on his success with Irish rugby.

Our U19 squad had their first training session of the year on Friday night as Aidan McGrath and his team cast an eye over his charges. Keep an eye on updates for further training.
On Thursday last our u15 football team had a comprehensive win over the combined Ballinahinch/ Templederry outfit on a full time score of 4-11 to 1-03.
