CLUB NOTES 14/07/24

Pride of place this week goes to our Senior hurlers who defeated Moycarkey Borris on Sunday to win the Centenary Co-op sponsored Mid Championship. This was our first win since 2018 and was the result of a very strong fourth quarter. Behind by 3 points at the break we fell 6 behind early in the second half but with the Moycarkey team reduced to 14 men following a second yellow for their left corner back, we upped the anti and began to put real pressure on their defence. Moycarkey were guilty of fouling in scoreable positions and John McGrath punished them with some fine free taking. He also converted a penalty and Ciaran McCormack added a second sideline to his name as we finished the game really strongly. We had good performances all over the field and Noel McGrath was selected as Man of the Match.

Next Sunday is All Ireland Hurling Final day and we will have representation in Croke Park as Mikey Loughnane will represent Castleiney NS during the half time entertainment. Congratulations to Mikey and we hope you have a great day.

Ladies Football

Our Ladies team were in action on Sunday morning in Cappawhite in the first round of the championship but with so many regular first team players unavailable at the moment this was always going to be a tough assignment. The girls showed great heart and determination as the chased the game to the end but Cappawhite who were almost at full strength proved a little bit too crafty.  Hopefully we will have more players available going forward as this championship is going to be very competitive.
