CLUB NOTES 14/01/24

As anyone who heard the excellent Down Your Way programme on Tipp fm on Saturday last will testify to, Pat Cullen is a true ambassador for our club. He came across as so very knowledgeable about the history of the club and confirmed what most of us already know. He’s a very straight talker!! Well done Pat and your family and friends on a terrific programme. Long may you continue to play an active part in Loughmore Castleiney GAA affairs.

1973 TEAM

During his interview Pat referred to the 1973 team as the being the catalyst for all the success that has followed since. That team recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of that county title win which was the first since 1955 when they met for dinner and refreshments in the Templemore Arms. Great to see so many of that brilliant team still hale and hearty while we also remember especially those who have passed on. These lads laid the foundation for the club that we have today where we are expected to compete at the highest level in both codes and our will to win and never say die attitude is surely down to the legacy of the heroes of 1973 and thereafter.

Juvenile notes.
On Saturday last the u13 hurlers played host to Naomh Olaf club from Dublin and they played a really exciting match against the young Dubs with plenty of top class skill on display. Afterwards everyone present was treated to refreshments in the clubhouse and the match will be replayed in a couple of weeks time when our boys will travel to Dublin for the day. Many thanks to the organisers and to Mikey Ryan who stepped in at short notice to referee.

On Wednesday night last our under 15 and under 17 players visited the excellent sports lab at the LIT campus in Thurles as they began a 9 week strength and conditioning program. This is a vital part of team preparation in the modern game and it’s great to have such an excellent facility on our doorstep.
The adjourned AGM of the Juvenile club will take place on Thursday 18th January at 19.30 in the clubhouse. Please come along if you have someone in the Juvenile club and get up to speed with what’s happening.

Schools Hurling.
The Croke Cup final replay was decided during the week with Thurles CBS just getting the better of Our Lady’s in a cracking match. With club players on both teams we say well done to the winners and commiserate with the losers on the day. These finals are the stepping stones to greater things and being on these panels is a great achievement.
Thurles CBS marched into the Harty Cup semi finals during the week also with a decent performance against St Flannans so best of luck to our panellists on that team as they seek to avenge last years final defeat.

Tipperary Senior Hurling

Well done to Brian McGrath who continued his comeback from injury with a fine display at fullback for the Tipp hurlers in their win over Kerry on Sunday. The team will now play a couple of games against Clare and Limerick before the commencement of the National League.
