County Hurling Semi-final Win!

The back-to-back dream remains alive as Loughmore-Castleiney advanced to the County Final with victory over Holycross-Ballycahill in a much-anticipated semi-final clash. Billed as the experienced side versus the young contenders, the game may not have reached the dramatic heights expected, but it nonetheless showcased moments of fine skill and teamwork across the field.

Points were traded early on before a sideline cut from Ciarán McCormack drifted over the goalkeeper and into the net, giving Loughmore the edge. Three converted frees from John McGrath and a point from play extended the lead, though Holycross remained in touch through accurate free taking from D. Woods. Noel McGrath added two fine points from play before both sides exchanged further frees to leave the half-time score at 1-09 to 0-10 in our favour.

On the restart, Holycross closed the gap to a single point, but scores from Ciaran Connolly and N. McGrath steadied the ship. Full-back Willie Eviston added his name to the scorecard with a long-range effort that clipped the crossbar and went over. Ciaran McGrath soon followed with a point from play, while the opposition replied with five points but were left to rue a series of wides. Further points from Tómas McGrath and Liam McGrath sealed the result, ensuring Loughmore-Castleiney’s place in another County Final. Tómas McGrath was the richly deserved RTE Man of the Match.

Substitutions: P. McCahey for E. Connolly, J. Ryan for T. Maher, P. O’Connell for L. McGrath, and J. Quinn for C. McCormack.
Full-time score: Loughmore-Castleiney 1-18, Holycross-Ballycahill 0-15.
