CLUB NOTES 11/08/24

Pride of place this week goes to Maria Connolly who lined out at corner back on the Tipperary Junior Camogie team which overcame Laois in Croke Park on Sunday to win the All Ireland title by a point. Maria is a member of our ladies football team and plays her camogie with Drom-Inch. Congratulations Maria from everyone in the club.

Senior hurling.

The 2nd round of the County Championship saw us take on Holycross Ballycahill in the Ragg on Sunday and after Ciaran McCormack opened the scoring with a sideline in the 2nd minute we were never headed. The final score of 0-21 to 0-14 doesn’t really reflect our dominance as we were guilty of some very poor wides over the course of the game and should have been out of sight by the middle of the second half. However it was a well deserved win and puts us in the driving seat in the group with Nenagh left to play. They scored 7-28 against Lorrha on Saturday eveningso they will definitely need our full attention.

Junior Hurling

The Junior team played JK Brackens on Friday night in the Park in a knockout game with a place in a Mid Semi Final at stake. This was a hotly contested match which threatened to boil over on a couple of occasions but with plenty of yellow cards and a red issued to both sides, it was Brackens who got in front early and held that lead to the final whistle to win on a score of 1-13 to 0-19.

Ladies football

Ardfinnan were the visitors to Cuguilla on Sunday evening for round three of the ladies Intermediate championship and despite a very good second half performance, we went down 8-13 to 2-07. There are still some regular players that are unavailable and with an under strength team, this division is proving to be very difficult. On the bright side the girls on the pitch are not lacking in effort and are a credit to the jersey for their willingness to keep going even though it may seem at times that it would be easier to give up.
