Club Notes 17th September 2023

County Hurling and Football Championships

Our Senior hurlers overcame the challenge of Roscrea on Saturday afternoon to book our place in this year’s County Senior Hurling Semi Finals. Despite first half goals from John McGrath and Philip O’Connell we went in five points down at half time (2-9 to 1-17) against a very clinical Roscrea team who didn’t register a single wide in the opening 30 minutes. A much improved second half showing saw us tighten up significantly and reverse the deficit to eventually run out two point winners. Ciaran Connolly made his first start for our seniors since 2021 while his namesake Ciaran McGrath was again influential off the bench.

In the semi final we have been drawn against our 2021 County Final opponents Thurles Sarsfields with Toomevara and Kiladangan facing off in the other semi final. Our game is down for 7:15 on Saturday the 30th of September.

There is no let up however as we are still involved on both fronts. Next weekend sees us take on Moyle Rovers in the football quarter finals. The game will be played in Golden on Saturday at 1:30pm.

Junior C Hurlers

Congrats to Pat Cullen and his Junior C hurlers who had a big win on Sunday in Drombane. 6-23 to 0-14 against Upperchurch.

Ladies Football

We are through to the county semi final against Silvermines. The match takes place this Tuesday 19th at 8pm in Dr. Morris Park Thurles. All support would be greatly appreciated.

Under 19 Hurling

Our U19 hurlers played the Mid Final against Gortnahoe on Wednesday night last in Templetuohy. Played in miserable conditions this was a terrific game played in a great spirit by both teams and the large crowd was treated to a fine game. Despite the perfect start for us with a goal in the opening minutes, Gortnahoe managed to get on top by midway through the first half and continued to lead at half time 2-7 to 1-7. We pushed on in the second half and the drama brought us all the way to the 62nd minute when we had a penalty to level the game at 2-10 each. This was duly dispatched to the net and extra time was needed. Level at half time 2-13 apiece but the last ten minutes saw Gortnahoe finally get on top 2-21 to 2-15. This was an excellent performance and every one of our lads left their hearts on the pitch. They can be very proud of their application and work rate and hopefully they can make amends next Wednesday when we take on Drom-Inch in the Mid Football final in Dr Morris Park at 19.30. Once again we would ask for plenty of support for the boys as they bid to continue their season.

Juvenile Notes

The U15 hurlers entertained Ballinahinch Templederry last Thursday evening in Castleiney in round 8 of the league and unfortunately they lost out on this occasion.
