CLUB NOTES 10/12/23

The playing season is drawing to a close and AGMs are the main topic of conversation this past week. Brendan Meagher stepped down from the chair at our own AGM and has been replaced by Joe Ryan. There have been some major changes to the club grounds during Brendan’s tenure and he has definitely left the club in a much better position than when he took over and for this we thank him. Joe Ryan brings a terrific work ethic to the job and will no doubt continue the work that has started and drive us on to further improvement.
With the Mid and County Conventions over for another year, it is only right that we should acknowledge the tremendous work of our near neighbour Joe Kennedy as he finished his term of office as County Chairman. Thanks to Joe for his help and time given to us at various stages and best of luck to him in whatever the future holds for him. Congratulations to Jimmy Minogue who now steps into Joe’s shoes. Closer to home Joe O Sullivan stepped down as Chairman of the Mid Board and has been replaced by Martin Bourke of the Boherlahan club. Thanks to Joe for all his great work and best wishes to Martin as he starts out.
Our intermediate football team are due to play Sarsfields on Thursday night 14th in Dr Morris park. Throw in is at 8 o clock.
On Monday 18th the Mid Football final against Upperchurch will take place in Templemore with the same start time of 8 pm. Best of luck to both teams.
The RTE young sports star of the year will be presented next Saturday night and our own Brian Gleeson is amongst the nominees. This is well justified after a tremendous year with Ireland and Munster and we wish him all the best.
The Juvenile Club had mixed success with our representatives on the various Mid Football Development Squads in the last week.
We had Brannoc Hickey, Ronan Murray, Daniel McDonnell and Ryan Mullins all on the U14B team that lost in the County Shield Final while Cathal Breen and Cathal Ryan were on the 14A team that also lost their County Shield Final. The club had the honour of having the Captaincy of the 14A team with Cathal Breen selected for the role.
The Mid U13A team won the County Shield Final and the club were represented on this team by Philip Walsh, Ben Moran, Geoffrey Meade and Tristan Bourke Morris.
Well done to all our players involved in these squads.
