CLUB NOTES 08/09/24

With no Senior action this week our underage players took centre stage. On Thursday night the U19 football team played Boherlahan knowing that a win by 6 points or more would put them at the top of the table. The boys played a fast flowing game with plenty of fantastic scores as they were always in control running out 2-13 to 1-03 winners. This means that they now play Moyne Templetuohy in the final.

On the same evening our u15 hurlers took on Moyne Templetuohy and they also had a fine win on a score line of 4-21 to 1-12.

On Saturday in Holycross the u13 hurlers played Upperchurch in the Mid Final and this was a really exciting match with the result in doubt right up to the end. 5 points to 1 down after 5 minutes was not the ideal start but the boys never panicked and a fine goal really turned the tide in our favour. We followed up very quickly with a second goal and it was game on. 2 points down at half time, the team talk in the dressing room seemed to inspire the lads into action as they took the game to Upperchurch from the throw in. The energy levels were fantastic and every single player was winning their own battle. Upperchurch had a purple patch in the middle of the half but we came right back into it with 5 minutes to go and 2 great goals sealed a famous win. Final score was 5.09 to 3-13. The joint captains Tadgh Stapleton and Mikey Loughnane were presented with the cup and Dylan Considine was the very deserving Man of the Match. Afterwards the team, management and parents were treated to a Barbecue back in the village courtesy of Denis O Reilly of Premier Meats. This was a lovely gesture from Denis who was also one of the sponsors of the food for our Golf Classic and he deserves the support of everyone for his generosity. Next up for the team is the County semi finals.
