CLUB NOTES 06/10/24

What a weekend!!  Our two adult football teams played Moyle Rovers in the Premier Junior and Senior County semi finals and both have qualified for the County finals. On Saturday in Dundrum the Juniors played in atrocious conditions with the ground and the ball both very greasy. However the work rate and efficiency in front of goal was the big difference between the two teams as from the start we took the game to Rovers and never relented. Despite hitting the uprights 4 times in the first 6 minutes we got to half time 2-05 to 0-03 ahead and we continued that form in the second period adding another 2-05 to Rovers 0-02. This was a really impressive all round display and everyone involved gave their all. Scorers; Cian Hennessy 3-02, Ed Connolly 1-03, Mikey Ryan 0-02, Micheal McGrath, Conor McGrath and Ciaran McCormack 0-01 each.

On Sunday it was onto Cashel and just like Saturday we got off the mark quickly, attacking at pace and defending in numbers. Moyle Rovers were unable to deal with our pace and lost Ben Owens to a black card 5 minutes before halftime which saw us go in 0-11 to 0-02 ahead. Within 2 minutes of the restart Ciaran McGrath got his fist to a high ball to punch it to the net. Shortly afterwards he was replaced by Philip O Connell and his first possession saw him round the full back and slot home goal number 2. This put the game beyond Rovers and from then to the final whistle we controlled the game as it finished 2-16 to 0-05.  Scorers; Liam McGrath 0-07, Philip O Connell 1-01, Ciaran McGrath 1-0, Liam Treacy 0-02 and Eoin O Connell, Brian McGrath, Noel McGrath, Eamon Connolly, Lorcan Egan and Conor Ryan 0-01 each. A fine all round performance with plenty of highlights but there’s still the small matter of Clonmel Commercials to get over before we can celebrate anything. It’s back to the hurleys this week as we prepare for Toomevara next Sunday.

With the club now involved in 3 County Finals, we would remind our supporters about the training fund which has opened. Followers of the club on social media will be aware of the links available to donate online, the bank details are IBAN no IE80BOFI90445629172981 or you can give a donation to any committee member. The club really appreciates the support of those who have donated so far but preparing teams at this time of the year is expensive and we want to leave no stone unturned in an effort to win these finals.

If anyone wants to get flags or bunting please contact John O Connell on 0862754270 and let’s get our colours out to show the lads that we are all behind them. You can also buy these items in the Cottage.
