CLUB NOTES 29/09/24

Well done to our Senior hurling team and management who qualified for the County Final on Sunday with a hard fought victory over Thurles Sarsfields. Played in real winter conditions we started strongly and were 4 points up after 5 minutes only to be rocked by two goals in 90 seconds in the 6th and 7th minutes from Paddy Creedon. To their credit the boys never panicked and kept the score board ticking over from play and frees to reach the break 0-11 to 2-04 ahead. We started the 2nd half with real purpose and out scored Sars 5 pts to 1 in the first 15 minutes. The final quarter was a real dog fight but our fitness and hunger saw us through on a score line of 0-17 to 2-09. This was a fine team performance with our subs contributing handsomely to the victory. It sets up an intriguing final against Toomevara in 2 weeks time.

The Junior C team played Gortnahoe in the Mid Final on Sunday morning in Drombane and this game was also played in tough conditions with a strong wind helping us in the 1st half. Some fine hurling saw us reach half time 0-12 to 1-05 ahead but just after the break Gortnahoe hit us for 2 quick goals which ultimately proved the difference. We managed a goal after a great move from the backs which found Anthony Ryan on the left wing and he finished a rasping shot to the net. That was unfortunately our only score of the 2nd half and the final score was 3-11 to 1-12.

At the same time in Cuguilla our Minor hurlers defeated Thurles Gaels in a really tight game on a score line of 3-11 to 4-07.

Lotto

Huge congratulations to Seanie Everard who won our Lotto jackpot last week. We hope you enjoy the winnings Seanie. Don’t forget that there is still a jackpot to be won next week so buy your tickets in time.

Senior football

Next weekend we gave two County semi finals against Moyle Rovers with the Junior team playing at 3.45 on Saturday in Dundrum and then on Sunday at 1pm in Cashel the Senior team attempt to get to another County final.

With both codes involved at the business end of the championships the club is launching a training fund to offset the expenses associated with training at this time of year. Given the great effort being put in by everyone involved and the pleasure that we all get from their success it is hoped that all our supporters will get behind the teams by donating to the fund. You can give a donation to any committee member or you can pay directly to the Loughmore Castleiney GAA bank account. IBAN no is IE80BOFI90445629172981

If paying directly please make sure to put your name on the message with the initials T/F (training fund).

Your support is greatly appreciated

We would also encourage all parishioners to dig out your flags and banners and set the tone for the next few weeks.
