Mid Tipp Intermediate Football Final

The Intermediate football final was played in Templemore on St Stephen’s Day with JK Brackens in opposition. This was a really decent game with both teams attacking from the outset as opposed to the more defensive type of football that has become the norm. The big difference at half time was a goal from Brackens Brian Quinn from the penalty spot after 26 mins which put the home side 1-02 to no score ahead. The concession of the goal seemed to give our boys a jolt as they finished the half much stronger with Micheal McGrath from a free and Ciaran McCormack from play registering points. Half time saw the introduction of Peter Nyland and Colm Gleeson and the tempo was definitely raised with Gleeson in particular making a big difference with his willingness to go at the Brackens defence. Points from play by Ciaran McCormack and Johnny Campion and another free from Micheal had us right back in the game by the 7 th minute of the half. Brian Quinn got his 2nd goal on the 42nd minute to restore the Brackens cushion but Micheal McGrath replied with two points, one from a free. Ciaran Connolly and then Henry Maher both got on the scoresheet and with 10 minutes left the score was 2-06 to 0-9. Henry was now operating around the middle of the park and Martin Meagher had joined the fray at full back. Points from play by Micheal McGrath and Peter Nyland had it down to a one point game as the time ran out but up stepped Brian Quinn to get his hat trick on 30 mins. The last couple of minutes was frantic stuff but Brackens finished off with a point on the full time whistle. The goals were the big difference between the sides and we definitely left everything on the pitch.
Team lined out as follows; Ciaran Breen,Jay Shorley, Henry Maher, Padraic Hennessy (capt), Loughlin Campion, Denis Brereton, Ml Connolly, Bill Ryan, Ciaran McCormack, Micheal McGrath, Ciaran Connolly, Niall Moloney, Johnny Campion, Padraig Egan, Brian McGrath (K). Subs used Peter Nyland, Colm Gleeson and Martin Meagher.

As we reach the end of 2023 we can look back with mixed feelings on the year. We achieved a certain amount of success in various grades but the Senior hurling and football teams will probably feel that with a small bit of luck that they could have progressed a little further. However the players and management of all teams have to be credited with a tremendous effort as we continue to dine at the top table in both codes and this requires tremendous dedication and commitment from all concerned and their families. This effort should never be taken for granted and as supporters we thank them all for the enjoyment they give us throughout the year.
Our u13 football team won the Mid Final, u15 hurlers won the County final, u19 footballers won the Mid, Junior C hurlers retained Mid crown, Senior footballers won Mid championship and our Ladies stepped up a grade and won another Co Football final.
The Mothers and Others continues to thrive with huge numbers enjoying a great year of football. We hosted 4 teams at the Maureen Tynan Memorial Tournament and also took part in the Munster Blitz in Mallow.
On the individual front, we were honoured to have Noel McGrath as the Tipperary senior hurling captain in 2023 and Philip O Connell was selected as the Mid Tipp young Footballer of the year for 2023.
Many others represented our club in various sports during the year, athletics, camogie, rugby etc and performed with distinction keeping the Loughmore Castleiney flag flying high. Congratulations too to all our players who represented us on various County teams and panels throughout the year. As we look forward to 2024 we wish all our members health and happiness and of course a little bit of success.
