Club Notes 03/12/23

The Senior football team had a fine win over JK Brackens on Tuesday night in the Mid semi final played in Templemore. An evenly contested first half saw us concede an early goal from play after just 5 minutes but we never let this upset us and we continued to attack from the back with scores being traded up to half time which arrived with Brackens leading 1-03 to 0-05. The 2nd half saw us up the tempo to take the lead with a couple of well taken points and then a Liam McGrath goal from play really put us in command. Fresh legs at this stage were also a factor as we introduced Philip O Connell who scored 2 points and Darragh McCahey who finished off a good move to the back of the net on the stroke of full time. Brackens were held to just 2 points in the 2nd half in a fine defensive display. Full time score 2-10 to 1-05.
Team : Shane Hennessy, Lorcan Egan, Eoin O Connell, Willie Eviston, Aidan McGrath, Ed Meagher, Tommy Maher, Noel McGrath, Liam Treacy, Eamon Connolly, John McGrath, Conor Ryan, Liam McGrath, Ciaran McGrath and Cian Hennessy. Subs used, Philip O Connell, Darragh McCahey and Conor McGrath.

One of the highlights of the night was not the football but the visit to the dressing rooms of Dick Egan. It gave everyone a massive lift to see Dick in such good form and we wish him all the best in his continuing recovery.

Huge congratulations to Ciaran Connolly who picked up the lotto jackpot last week of 16850 euro. That’s a lovely early Christmas present and we wish plenty of fun spending it!! The lotto is a great source of income for the club and with weekly prizes as well as the chance of winning the jackpot, all members of the club should consider playing. Why not purchase a yearly subscription for a friend or family member as a Christmas gift? It’s the gift that keeps on giving!!!

Speaking of lotto, congrats to Elaine Hicks who won 1000 euro in the County board draw held this weekend.

The boys involved in Schools hurling had mixed luck this week. Our Lady’s and Thurles CBS played out a thrilling draw in the Croke Cup final and as yet no decision has been made on the date for the replay. The following day Our Lady’s went down to Fethard to take on Hospital in a preliminary quarter final of the Harty Cup and in a game that ebbed and flowed, they ended up losing by four points. Hard luck to Mikey,Joey, Paul and Richie.
