Junior A Football: Following a lapse of thirty nine years our junior A footballers overcame the strong challenge of a fine Knockavilla Kickhams side to take the 2017 County junior A title on a 2-07 to 0-08 score line.
Having lost the Mid final to Gortnahoe in disappointing fashion, they certainly were out to make amends and this they achieved having led 1-05 to 0-04 at half time. In a closely fought second half it was down to the wire at the finish with a late Shane Hennessy penalty putting the issue beyond doubt. Captain, Shane Hennessy accepted the cup from County football board Chairman Joe Hannigan amid scenes of great jubilation.
U/21 A Hurling: Our U/21 hurlers bowed out of the championship with a heavy defeat to Gortnahoe 10-5 to 2-25 compounding our feeling that we were not at this level presently.
Our thanks to the players and mentors for their efforts during a difficult assignment.
Late Sean Webster: The death occurred in Westmeath last weekend of Sean Webster late of Tinvoher, Loughmore.
Sean as in ill health over a period but when well enough always returned to the parish on many occasions. Sean played football with the club in his early days and was rated highly on the playing fields. His departure to England finished a short career but he always maintained an interest in the club.
The club flag was draped on his coffin with many from the parish making the journey for the removal.
To his family, his sister Mary, brothers, Robert, Eddie and Michael our deepest sympathy. R.I.P.
Photographs: A reminder that the committee are still seeking parish photographs of teams or any historic GAA photos down the years. Photos will be scanned at owner’s homes.
Meeting: A meeting of the five year plan committee along with club officers will take place at 8.30 in Stapletons bar followed by a photographic committee meeting.
